Standard Shopping Ads Expanding to Additional Google Surfaces

Two announcements in one day?!?!

That’s right, and seemingly just as Google Marketing Live ended, the emails began to flood in. Standard Shopping Ads in Google are going to be automatically eligible for display on two new surfaces: YouTube and Discover.

Starting the week of July 15th, Standard Shopping Ads will be automatically enabled to display on these surfaces through

While Showcase Shopping Ads and the ‘New Google Shopping’ (aka the revamping of Google Express) were the focus during Google Marketing Live, the fact that Product Shopping Ads (the one’s we traditionally associate with) are to be part of this expansion as well was not made apparent.

Here’s a snip of the email retailers should have received:

As mentioned in the email, merchants and advertisers will be able to opt out of having ads displayed in these new areas.

While some may choose to allow them to display to see if it brings in additional traffic and sales, you can stop this by following the directions found in this Google help article (also below for your convenience):

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click the Campaigns tab, then click the Standard Shopping campaign you want to opt out of YouTube and Google Discover.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. Under “Networks” click Edit.
  5. Uncheck the box next to “YouTube and Google Discover on Display Network” to disable ads from this campaign to appear on YouTube and Google Discover.
  6. Click Save.
