Eligible SMBs should now start to see those COVID-19 credits, courtesy of Google Ads, granted to their accounts - the notification is confirmed appearing in select accounts.
It was back in March, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, that Google announced it would be supporting eligible small businesses with free ad credits for advertising through Google Ads.
Small and medium sized businesses who had spent with a Google Ads account in ten out of twelve months of 2019, and in January and/or February of 2020, were to receive these credits starting in May according to additional information Google release in late April.
Well, it's now June and those credits have, in fact, begun to arrive for some advertisers - some of which did start showing in late May.
How to Spot the Notification
Any Google Ads account that was eligible for the COVID-19 ad credits, should note a distinct blue notification in their account interface:
Now, it is important to note that we have only seen these credits roll out for advertisers in two specific regions so far - New Zealand and Australia.
We have yet to note any roll outs for advertisers outside of these regions, but Google had stated that it would take some time for all regions to see the roll out.
How Much Was Issued?
The amount of the credit varies account to account. As Google had previously stated: "The ad credit amount will vary by customer based on past Google Ads spend, and the country and currency where the business and Google Ads account is set up."
As you saw above, that advertiser was issued $380.00 AUD. As we saw for another Australian advertisers, they were issued $400.00 AUD:
Expectations for Other Regions
There is no official information available on the roll out of the COVID-19 ads credits for any other regions aside from those our team noted throughout our general day-to-day of logging into Google Ads while assisting our customers.
We expect that it will be a slow and steady expansion, potentially seeing larger markets such as in the US to be some of the last to begin receiving the credits.
